Integrating Horses into Healing

January 26th and 27th, 2020

Two Day Workshop on Combining Equine Therapy and Your Clinical Practice: Horses have the natural capacity to help us become more self-aware, increase our self-esteem, and develop more positive communication, relational, and leadership skills. This workshop will go over how to integrate the horses’ natural therapeutic qualities into your clinical practice, with didactic learning and hands on practice with horses. Topics will include Competencies for Practice, Human-Animal Relational Theory, and integration of this knowledge into real-time sessions with horse-therapist Integration.   • Observe and Participate in Session with Horses
  • American Counseling Association Competencies in Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT)
  • Observe and Participate in Session with Horse
  • Devise and implement therapy sessions with horses

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the benefits of integrating equines into therapy
  • Discuss how Human Animal Relational Theory informs AAT practice
  • Describe the ACA Animal Assisted Competencies
  • Demonstrate how to effectively transform a client’s therapy goals into AAT interventions
  • Create session plans for use with equines
  • Utilize skills and knowledge learned to implement session plans with equines at workshop

  • Health Care Professionals interested in implementing equine therapy into practice
  • Equine Professionals interested in implementing therapeutic interventions with therapists into their business
  • This is geared for: Beginner Level in animal assisted therapy

Dr. Meola, PhD, LPC, NCC has been working in the EFP field for almost a decade and is the founder of Mane Source Counseling, a private practice offering individual and group therapy, supervision for LPC licensure, and wellness coaching. She is a lifelong equestrian and avid advocate for the ethical and intentional addition of animals to therapeutic activities. She is also certified through PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) as a CTRI (Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor) and ESMHL (Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning).

Malaika Albrecht, MA, is a certified yoga instructor, Reiki practitioner, poet, and former executive director of a non-profit PATH Premier Accredited Center. She owns a farm in Ayden, NC and works as the ESMHL in both therapy and learning sessions with Dr. Meola. She is a PATH CTRI and ESMHL.

 

Fees for this two-day workshop are $285. Full time student discount: $185
Discount for registering before January 15th, 2020. Deadline for cancellation/refunds is January 19th, 2020.

It is the participant’s responsibility to check with their individual state boards to verify CE requirements for their state. Continuing Education Credit is pending through Commonwealth Educational Seminars for the following professions:
